@want.all.the.things: The amount of stories in this book that will shock you is unreal! #ushistory #historicalfacts #HistoryTime #historyteacher #historytiktok #historytok #americanhistory #bookrecommendations #BookTok #workersrights #dealsforyoudays
If Ludlow shocked you, wait till you hear about the Battle of Blair Mountain—10,000 miners went to war with coal companies, and the U.S. bombed them. Yes, bombed. On U.S. soil.

Coal miners were literally slaves but no one will teach that .. they couldn’t just switch jobs bc the companies owned their housing and paid them in their own form of currency…

This is completely f*cked, but it's incredibly important to note this was NOT the US military--it was the state guard under the Governor. The federal military CANNOT be deployed domestically for anything short of an actual insurrection or invasion.

It’s weird when you discover that the US history that you were taught about in school was actually a very sanitized version with a specific intent in mind, right?

The coal company was owned by the Rockefellers. They rented the National Guard.

That’s why they got rid of African studies, native, Mexican studies in some school because we are learning the truth the government wants to hide. “It’s too woke”… I wonder why.

The battle of Blair mountain. WV. The United States military dropped bombs on striking rebellion coal miners. We learned about that in WV history class in middle school. The only time in history planes dropped bombs on its own people domestically in the United States.

Miners weren't allowed to leave their company essentially. They were paid in money that was only able to be spent in the town they lived in, not real money. They were coal slaves, sent into the pits of hell to be disposable for the rich to get richer. There's a reason Appalachia is so broken and poor. Blair Mountain though...

Perfect examples of why you should not trust governments welfare, Affordable housing, disability, and all systems the government creates. One minute you can have it and the next they can take it away faster than you received it. Less government abd more privately owned organizations.
