It’s actually more sinister than. They moved away from stamps to these because those papers are part of a biometric profiling system that they use to track and trace everyone entering and leaving. I’m from Jerusalem (Palestinian, because someone’s going to think I’m Israeli) and I don’t need to show my passport. Camera sees me and prints the paper with an old photo of me

This is actually true. My dad took me to Palestine and I got an Israel stamp on my passport. A year later, my mom took me to Syria at the age of 8, and they wouldn’t let me in the country because of that stamp. 💀

Israel doesn’t stamp passports because of Arab states’ discriminatory policies. Countries like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and others refuse entry to anyone whose passport shows a visit to Israel, no matter the reason. It’s a blanket boycott rooted in bigotry and the refusal to recognize Israel’s existence. To spare travelers from being blacklisted by these regimes, Israel issues a separate visa slip as a courtesy. If these governments didn’t penalize people simply for visiting a Jewish-majority country, this wouldn’t be necessary at all.

Correct. This has been true for at least 20 years. I was in Tel Aviv in 2004 and they did not stamp my US Passport and they gave this very reason : that I would not be able to enter some countries with an Israeli stamp
