The part that makes me SOB is when he finally finds the note she wrote him in their book. He was carrying the guilt of never having taken her on an adventure - when she understood, way before him, that the real adventure was their life together.

The Babadook is another great movie about grief, and mental illness/depression, personified as this strange monster. Rather than defeating the monster, the mum in the film manages to find a way to live with it, to control it so it doesn't control her. Because grief, esp for a loved one who was taken suddenly and way too soon, doesn't diminish and can't just be overcome, but we need to find a way to cope with it.

My wife and I had a tough time to conceive. We watched this movie and the first 10 minutes is hard. I think after watching this movie a handful of times. We decided if we ever had a baby girl, we would name her Ellie. Ellie and her twin sister turned 3 this year :)

This was so beautifully analyzed. “When you lose someone you lose them twice. You lose them when their body dies and you lose them when you finally let go” this is my favorite film and I did feel the burden of his grief through the entirety of the movie.
