First time I saw this movie I was in my teens. I'm 56 now. Most times that I watch it makes me want to cry. Chaplain was one of the greatest writers in human history, this speech is proof of that. I'm not Republican I'm not Democrat, I'm someone who wants to see a politician who cares about everybody. Too bad somebody with Charlie Chaplin's ideals in life couldn't run for high office.😢

The only thing I did not like about this film, was how he disparaged machines! machines can create for us a Utopia! The idea that we must work 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, is a slave mentality! machines taking over in the workplace, is already a fact, and is inevitable in fact! Don't disparage that which will save you from menial labor, instead praise it, and use the time that it saves you to contemplate and attempt to achieve a better understanding of nature and humanity!
