It's called a Limnic Eruption, where nearby volcanic activity causes the carbon dioxide sitting at the bottom of lakes to slowly rise to the surface and explode, releasing an enormous cloud of literal death. Laky Nyos isn't the only incident but it's the largest known mass death as a result of a Limnic Eruption. It's a natural disaster that nobody really talks about

Very true, August 21, 1986, close to my hometown. some of the survivor's had to run to my hometown and were offered "red oil" as an antidote for the poison injected. there a song we always sing as reminder of that incident🥺🥺

It happened in my country Cameroon. We're still scared it will happen again. Literally everyone including animals died except for 5 people. Two children and old man and a young girl. The 5th survivor wasn't in the village that night
