Many people are “shocked” by the age gap between the two. But I don’t think That’s the main issue. We are talking about the 80’s in wich even 12 years gap was considered normal. i understand everyone saying this movie shouldnt be romanticized & the grooming comments but the movie was about Elio's perspective, a coming of age film about HIM. it was the process of the character finding himself on who he is & how love came to be for him through a lens of homosexuality for a young male in the 80's. people are looking at it from a wrong view. ofc from a overall standpoint, its ABSOLUTELY wrong to have a relationship with an age gap, of course thats weird & gross BUT the movie was not directed to be focused on that nor was that the point, it was elios' journey that it was supposed to be focused on. a COMING OF AGE film. Coming of age films have to do with the growth of a character's internal monlogue from childhood to adulthood. yes, oliver took advantage of elio and elio loved an older man at the age of 17 (elio ofc didnt know better & oliver did) & sadly, that is the reality for some people irl too, but this film is not about accepting this form of love (this type of dynamic or age gap), its seeing the journey elio's character goes through at his age and the psychological challenges & processes one goes through figuring out love at a YOUNG AGE (within the character's perspective). this is about elio NOT about oliver. this is about the perspective of love elio goes through, NOT about oliver & elio needing or should be together. ITS ABOUT ELIO

when will the haters realize that the POINT of the movie is to show grooming from the victims pov, how you don’t realize that you’re actively being groomed. it’s not meant to romanticize grooming, it’s literally Elio romanticizing his situation.

It’s absurd how infatuated he was with him in the book and he never sees anything wrong with it and still actively misses him for YEARS Oliver has kids & a wife and Elio just can’t forget that summer 😭
