i just have started researching this phenomena - it’s really fascinating! based on this description, it sounds like this old person was engaging in a “bid for connection” albeit in a clunky way. where previous generations would probably just play along with what the guy was saying, and laugh it off as a weird encounter with an old man, it sounds like Gen Z is a bit more cautious/guarded about random interactions like this? maybe due to having a stronger sense of boundaries than previous generations? of course every individual is different, but in general it seems like GZ has more skepticism and caution. not without good reason. so while the old man grew up in a time where neighborhoods were families, GZ is growing up in a truly stranger-danger society
