This may be surprising to many of you given how verbal I am on this page, but the truth is in real life, my communication and level of speaking is very different. Using scripted social games gives me a way to communicate that feels very safe and doable. Sometimes, it is too hard for me to express things in “typical” sentence format, or I feel too overstimulated or emotionally unsafe or uncomfortable (this happens a lot for me), so using my scripted social games gives me a way to communicate. Without them, I have many periods of nonspeaking and shutdowns. But now that my boyfriend understands my scripts, I have had less periods of nonspeaking and shutdowns. When I am not using my scripted social games, my communication is often essay-like, or it is highly masked.
