I love seeing women take control of what their future family will look like. It’s amazing that now we can still have families even if you don’t meet “the right one” or if you just want to be single. I did IVF as a lesbian with my wife, and there’s so many single parents by choice now. Good luck with everything 🩷

I’m a newly qualified doctor and single. I’m doing the exact same thing. I’m doing IVF as a single person using a donor. I want to be single by choice.

Hey I’m a first time mum and the main income in our household. I can’t tell you how strongly you will feel when baby arrives about not going back to work. This is such a huge factor to consider if you’re doing this alone and have finances such as a mortgage to worry about. Daycare is also just generally bad for children under 3, please research. I was fortunate to be able have my son at work, but all my friends with babies have struggled so much and daycare for 12 month old is brutal

Just make sure you have a very very strong support network around you. Think about those early weeks and the fourth trimester, not just people stopping by and bringing you meals, try and get someone to stay with you for the first couple of weeks.

as a mum to a 1 year old please think about it . a child is really difficult to raise let alone doing it alone . I wouldn't know what I'd do if I didn't have his dad helping me . please have support

Hi! What made you choose a known donor and not the clinic route?

This was my decision too back in 2022 following a miscarriage! Used a known donor and now have my beautiful 2 year old little girl. Wouldn’t change any of it for the world x

good luck, not to be insensitive but do you think maybe this urge to have a baby is related to some trauma from your MC?

Please ensure you have input from CMHT or psychiatrist during & after. With your MH history you are at huge risk of MH relapse & post natal depression & psychosis, not to mention the risk of passing on MH issues, which can in part be genetic. Good luck.

MC also spurred me to be a SMBC, my 1st daughter wasn't by choice my partner died, I went through awful relationships just to "be with someone to have a child" I don't think il ever get over my partner who passed, I don't particularly enjoy being in a relationship & I LOVE single parenting. I have my rainbow baby & his dad whilst isn't involved on board to give him a sibling. at this stage in my life I don't have years to decide so I'm going to go for it. ignore the negative comments, you will never regret it

As someone who is donor conceived I’m glad you’re using a known donor- it’s been so hard not being able to access even the most basic health information about my genetic father. I searched my whole life so far to find out who he was and found out at 40 and he had just died. Also, I can so relate to how much you want to be a mum. My babies are my world.

Assuming you don’t get maternity pay, will you have the option to move back home? Or will you not take any maternity leave?

Don’t let all these commenters put you off, I was a single parent and I honestly found it easier than being in a relationship and parenting together. I loved it! I also worked as a nurse and had no family living in the same city as us. We made it work! And he’s 15 now and we have the most amazing bond. Good luck with it all ☺️

Curious, as a doctor how come you didn’t go down the route of IUI and clinics? Would it not be safer? X

I should have done this, my partner is now my ex & he’s taken all the joy of being a mother away from me with his narcissistic behaviour. If you can afford it & have the support don’t wait for a man who often will later leave you anyway. That is my massive regret. Best wishes to you!! X
