The one girl's logic is flawed because people aren't literally throwing books by problematic authors in the garbage. Most of them are putting those books into Little Free Libraries, selling them on PangoBooks or donating them in other ways.

People ask why there is a sudden flux on the “cancellation” of authors but if you think about it we are so much more connected to authors now than we were 10-15 years ago because the advancements of social media. Is it sudden or are we now able to hold an author accountable for their words and actions that doesn’t sit right with us, and we can choose who we support instead of just blindly buying like we used to.

Not buying off Amazon is a catch 22 tho - yes it removes support from the corporation but also many MANY Indie and Self Published author’s books are only available on Amazon because it’s the program that offers them the most royalties without having to list their book at a crazy high price, so not buying them on Amazon means the author does not make money off the sale of their books. I agree, don’t buy trad published books on Amazon because they don’t make royalties since they were paid outright, but continue to support indie authors there if possible 🖤
