That could have been me. My family didn't show for my graduation from Fort Dix, NJ basic training. My husband ( my then boyfriend) and his best friend flew from Atlanta to tap me. He's been standing with me now for 45 years. ❤️

can ppl volunteer to do this for soldiers with no family or family can't make it? NO ONE should be left alone....not 1 single soldier. may I ask what this "tapping out" occasion is for? heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. I invite military ppl to Thanksgiving that have no where to go...it's a great time and experience for everyone

There needs to be a program where strangers can come and tap out soldiers who don’t have anyone there. It would literally just be me adopting military men as my own surrogate children.

I realize this is the 7,143rd comment so no one will see it. This is beautiful and such a kind thing to do. However, I’d like to offer a defense of the mom/parents. Sometimes basic training/AIT is across the entire country. I graduated from both at bases in the south. I’m from the northwest. We weren’t poor, but definitely lower middle class. My parents asked if they should fly out for my graduation. I said no, stay home. It wouldn’t have bankrupted them, but it would have been a financial strain. They’re great parents. Something similar could be going on here. So applaud this kind woman, but don’t condemn this soldier’s parents.

My son tapped a young man out at his uncles graduation. He was one of the last few around us. Liam only being 2.5 at the time. Ran to him and understood what to do. Just gently grabbed his hand and said mine. He stationed near us in Augusta and they are best friends. Liam is almost 12 now.

My parents one time did a free program to adopt soldiers for one Thanksgiving, and they came back for several years afterwards. Each year bringing more, who’s family members were to far away. Now my parents have a bunch of extra kids who call them mom and dad lol
