If you’re an athlete, you’re an athlete by heart. No disrespect to club ball it’s either for you or not for you. My daughter and granddaughter never played club anything. But they did put in the work to both these starters in volleyball basketball and tennis and play all the way around. We are in a small town and students are encouraged to play all sports. I top them if they start it they finish it there’s no room for quitting. If you want playing time work for it and then some. I wasn’t that parent that was constantly at the school talking to the coaches about my kids playing time. I can count on one hand for both kids when I had a conference with their coaches. Lots of politics in sports in general. Number one the kids have to love it literally, parents have to work with your kids at home. Talk to talk walk the walk.

FULL ARMOUR VOLLEYBALL :
We are in Texas & Colorado. You are 100%. Texas is a whole other level. We have 120 players trying to compete for 40 spots for public school. Club coaches coaching public school push their personal clubs left in right.

What these parents don’t understand is that the lower teams are paying for the dues of the higher teams. They offer “no dues” to these top team players (some have even offered no travel costs). They fill up those regional teams with 10-12 to make up for all the “scholarships” given. I’m glad you addressed that these PARENTS being responsible. More & more athletes aren’t playing school ball because of school politics too.

Our club offers re-signs to the girls on the top 2 teams of each age group. A prerequisite to getting that re-sign offer is you have to make your high school team.

That’s a big issue in our Delta Region too. Some large clubs have coaches in local schools, and it’s amazing how many players flip once they join those programs. They’re told—directly or indirectly—that they have to play for a specific club to stay on the team. It’s a recruiting violation, but no one enforces it. Unfortunately, many families fall for it because of the perceived prestige of school ball. No matter how great the experience you provide, if a player ends up in one of those schools, chances are you’ll lose them. The stats are staggering.

We live in Texas an our public school coach doesn’t care what club we go to. She just would like us to all get better being in whatever club we want to be in. So my daughter enjoys playing school ball has a personal trainer to work on her vertical and does privates with her club coach. As a parent I would never let no one choose what club she should be in. We love being in the club that we are in, and my daughter would not trade it for the world !! So no, not all Texas coaches are controlling that choice. Texas should not be pointed out like that. That could happen anywhere.

So freaking true!!! Many of my girls leave to other club because of that SAME REASON! I am so over it. But parents are brainwashed by those coaches. Its horrible.

Florida clubs are poised to become the next Texas in terms of lack of loyalty. Clubs here are following the same playbook. It’s gross. The biggest kick is, clubs expect and demand loyalty but offer absolutely none in return.

I agree with all my heart!! The rules are that HS coaches cannot coach their players in club. (In Texas) Again its parents and the Texas region that do not enforce rules! 🤦🏻♀️

My daughter did that. Skipped school ball, got a private coach worked hard in fall one on one and gym! Helped tremendously for club!

A lot of kids WANT to play for their HS team for the fun and spirit of it. Playing in front of and with their friends etc. so it’s not cool for coaches to add the club pressure to that, so I understand why kids or parents deal with HS coaches pressuring them. Regions need to do a better job of cracking down on this. Recruiting is going to happen so you may as well let that be wide open unfortunately, BUT there should be rules and whistle blowing when it’s a HS coach who also coaches club. The connection is too close and due to the amount of time spent together there is too much influence.
