Known primarily through its burials - shallow pits or ground-level graves covered with stone mounds and typically lacking grave goods - the culture shows strong regional continuity with the Karasuk culture in metallurgy and burial form. In Mongolia, similar burials are often called "Sagsai," though many scholars consider Mongun-Taiga and Sagsai to be the same cultural horizon. Around 1200 BC, the Deer Stone-Khirigsuur Complex (DSKC) emerged, likely evolving out of the Mongun-Taiga/Sagsai tradition, particularly in western Mongolia. The DSKC retained similar burial forms but introduced larger monuments, deer stones, and horse sacrifices, signaling greater social complexity.
