People don’t just collect figures/plushies/keychains etc because they’re trending at the time though, people buy labubus because they’re trendy n shit and then forget about them a month later

people dedicate so much time and money into their oshikatsu instead of trendhopping on some keychains. there is actual passion and love behind these collections that wont be forgotten once the trends over and thats the difference

They literally are different. Oshitaku isn't something that will fade out within a year and all the products will end up in a landfill like how labubus will. One is being wasteful and one isn't.

Honestly they’re both overconsumption but a major difference is that those apart of the oshitaku community keep the items they collect for MANY years while most with labubus get them simply because they’re trending and will forget/dispose of them when the hype dies out

if u think its the same then u shld have no issue w saying being interested in & collecting jfashion is also overconsumption . the only reason why ppl find overconsumption bad is bc of the waste that comes from it . ppl who do oshikatsu dont buy for a trend js to discard it

Whilst yes both of them are overconsumption, i think generally that Oshikatsu doesn’t involve throwing something away or donating it to a second hand store after the character is no longer popular, or if it never was popular to begin with. At the end of the day, there’s very little we can do to discourage people from overconsuming[awkward]

i believe people have a problem with the labubu trend more than labubus themselves!! I'm not personally someone who like te concept of collection, but if people actually put time and "passion" in collecting labubus, so without just following a trend and throwing it all away in a year, then it wouldn't be looked down as much!! Sadly I don't know anything about oshitakus, so maybe that's also a trend?? I don't know sorry🙏🙏

buying too much of ANYTHING is overconsumption, whether it's out of passion or not

both are great. consumption is never the problem, it's overconsumption that's the issue which no single person is responsible for. just have a personality and don't mindlessly follow tiktok trends that you don't even actually like... also you 1000% learned about the term overconsumption on tiktok 😭.

I think people are just tired of microtrends, people who collect tend to be more dedicated and are in for the long run

youre so right and its literally the same with sonny angels too but people COMPLETELY neglect the fact that its overconsumtion too. people who are disagreeing here participates in the overconsumtion as much as the people buyinh labubus😭

Reminder that you genuinely being interested in something and collecting something over years isn’t the same as people buying into fast-cycle trends, not actually enjoying the collection process and just trying to be the person with the best/unique one, and throwing them away when it’s over

I didnt even know what that is but I'll jhst tell you the difference: one is a passion that brings you joy and keeps going for years, the other is just another trend that in a week everyone will start to hate so you'll have wasted your money on something you wont use ever again because it's not trendy and now maybe also hated. It is different to buy for yourself, your passion and to do it because it's trendy

Overconsumerism is when you only buy things because of trends or to fit in, so that when that trend ends, you throw everything away, for example labubus, pop its, etc. Oshikatsu dedicate their entire life to the character,Aside from the fact that oshikatsu are also a large part of Japan's economy
