@dan_of_innsmouth: Replying to @raider32 you should totally be proud of what you accomplished. I’d love a world where fewer people have to do so and that we improve the odds of doing so. #healthcare #universalincome #liberal #postscarcity
these entitlement programs already consume 55% of the US budget such as social security (which my generation will likely never receive if they do it will be pennies on the dollar) Medicare/medicaid, snap benefits(food stamps), HUD housing (section 8), ect and while these programs should exist they have been abused for decades I believe 1. they should be much closer monitored 2. there should be work requirements for able bodied individuals 3. we need able bodied people to understand these are short term solutions for the hard times at a certain point it comes down to personal responsibility and in today's modern age if you have access to a cellphone/computer (even your local library) with enough effort you can make more than enough to not need government assistance

It's really sad that this person lived through that; they are exactly the types of families that our social programs can help, but there was nobody in their life responsible enough to seek out those resources. The fact that they are against helping others because they believe anyone in the same circumstances don't deserve "handouts" only goes to show how broken and damaged they are from their childhood experiences.

I worked hard, earned 3 degrees, was on my way to furthering my decade long career, and then became disabled and now we live off one income and disability. I grew up with 2 disabled parents and this was my worst nightmare. it nearly killed me bc my worth was tied to my productivity. fortunately, ive always been a proponent of social programs. I just never wanted to need it myself. but here we are. all that to say, you never know what life will throw you

basic needs: food, reasonable appropriate housing, food should be provided. I currently live in a 1 bdrm. it could use bigger closets but otherwise it's fine. if those 3 things were provided free or extremely low cost think of the relief throughout society. think of the stress that falls off of 90% of our population. think of how much people could create, innovate, discover if they didn't have the crushing weight of simply trying to provide basic needs and survive. we'd have our flying cars, space travel etc.🥺 living shouldn't be this hard, for anyone.

the idea that we have to earn everything through work is very very modern. i wouldnt mind it if our work was like making progress towards helping or building a more equitable future for humanity but it's not, all of our work revolves around consumption. we were given this life for free and then believe a lie that we only deserve what we can get within a made up finite economy

We were immigrants, my parents worked multiple jobs for us, we all had multiple jobs and got degrees and did very well. BUT…I also believe we need social services to help everyone to minimize the bad luck that can happen to anyone at anytime. 🦸🏻♂️

We can and should ask for help when we need it.
