It’s also the plot of Superman: Birthright, almost directly pulled from it in fact. Lex Luthor uncovers that Clark’s kryptonian parents didn’t have the best intentions for earth so Lex goes on a smear campaign against Superman to turn public opinion against him. Not saying Gunns actual experiences didn’t influence the plot, but this is also a common storyline within the Superman’s mythos and it works for the character

I don't think James sees himself as the last good man in society. those jokes he made that came up were very dark. very not funny jokes but he did profusely apologize and it wasn't still an unfair firing and I think it's more about misinformation in the movie rather than some sort of personal exorcism

Felt GOTG vol 3 was more symbolic for James as Rocket & that being a vessel to fire back at Disney on marvels dime. Superman is very much cribbed from comics, but interesting to think.
