Not true! It’s a road block for many kids who can’t afford MCAT prep courses.

It is a predictor of how someone will do on the multitude of exams ahead and it is frankly a differentiator. What we should get away from is choosing applicants by political ideology, race and gender and just get back to basics with merit.

There are still a lot of difficult exams in med school, which is why the MCAT and GPA is still a super important tool. Schools can choose lower score students, but it's not useful if they can't pass the tests

Yea because how a person can fluff up their experiences in an essay (some of which likely didn’t even happen) are much better indicators for what makes a better physician.

Ragebait topic here no matter your opinion, but I think anybody who gets through MD/DO is qualified, but “good doctors” come from how much they care and how well they treat their patients

I want a doctor who got a 4.0 in college and 525 on MCAT over someone who didn’t.

They are seeing if you can study and retain information. They obviously care about your score. She’s accepting that 525 every time

That’s all well & good, but if you can’t take out student loans to cover your tuition & expenses medical school is going to be impossible for most.

Love how they say that yet i was rejected multiple times with a below average MCAT score. I’m now in third year and passed STEP 1. Mcat means nothing but schools are too worried about statistics too much

So let me guess they have moved from objective metrics and moved towards research and letters? Things that can be manipulated. An embarrassment.

The MCAT score does not make difference about who is good doctor, but sure correlate with ability to pass multiple standardized tests through the medical training journey. But the system is trying to dumb down the USLME. The Board certification tests is another issue that needs to be addressed.

The MCAT literally is the dumbest exam ever. Means nothing. No clinical correlation at all. No one in med school cares about your mcat lol
