I was a Catholic kid studying different theologies in a high school religion class when Islamic Jurisprudence popped up. We were meant to study the 5 Pillars and display a broad understanding of Islam. I was fascinated by the capacity of a man who was illiterate to develop the legal system he did and scored in the top 5 in my state. It is the reason I’m in law school today. Being a Muslim, I believe the pursuit of knowledge is our primary purpose in this life. Not dissimilar at all from our Jewish cousins. In understanding my faith at that level, I’d argue there’s no scholarly pursuit more relevant to the Islamic faith than law.
