@the.frizzzz: So I looked into how the SAT actually started… and let’s just say it wasn’t about measuring intelligence 😅 The story behind this test is way messier than anyone ever tells you. From who created it to why it became so powerful—it’s not what you think. If you’ve ever felt like standardized tests didn’t reflect who you really are, you might’ve been onto something. This is part of my series Everything You Know Is a Lie where I deep-dive into the real history behind the systems we all grew up with—and spoiler alert: most of it’s based on vibes, not logic. #frizzzz #untoldhistory #everythingyouknowisalie #sattest #americaneducation

As if that weren't bad enough, to get into a 'good' college these days, you need not only a great SAT score, but tons of extracurricular activity, awards, impressive capstone, AP exams ... How is a poor kid who has to work part time going to get all this?

I have degrees in education, and the fact that all tests are biased is part of the curriculum for teachers. Every study in academia shows that bias is unavoidable in test design, but politicians and the public refuse to listen to teachers about education.

I did so bad on the PSAT, my counselor told me I had a <0% to get into college, and high school was probably going to be an enormous challenge for me. I have a Masters degree and graduated with highest honors in college both times.

I scored 1,548 on the SATs, ETS came to my school and accused me of cheating. My SAT Prep teacher told them that I was taking her class and a Speed Reading course but they didn’t believe it. I took the test again and scored 1,563. ETS invited me to their facility gave me a tour and offered me a job when I graduated college 🤦🏽‍♂️. Of course I refused to ever work for them ✊🏾

I couldn't afford the exam fee so I couldn't take it. but when I took the practice SAT, I scored in the top 5% of the state. had I been able to take the actual SAT, I would've had a full ride scholarship to any in state university

I don’t know, it seemed like seeing my rich friends working harder at studying than the rest of us. Their parents were more disciplined when it came to studying and learning. Maybe it’s not a race thing, but a parenting issue. I went to college, but my ambitions were never as high of a standard as some of my wealthy friends ambitions. So I doubt it’s about race because wealth and discipline comes in all race.

Heh. I didn’t do TERRIBLY on my SAT . But was told to go to community college. Cause I was never going to get accepted to college. So I didn’t go. Dropped out of CC after a year & half. Cause I was literally getting nothing out of it

My parents got me SAT prep. They also forced me to take it 3 times, starting the end of my sophomore year. In 2005 it cost $50 a test. As an adult, without kids, I can't fathom spending $3k on prep, and then more money for a kid to take the test. It absolutely is a test to exclude poor people. I scored pretty high in the English section, and bombed the math section. I still got a full academic scholarship, even with poor math SAT numbers, they just want to see that you took it.
