The cutoff between land and sea was really after melody was threatened so I think they still saw each other until the wall was built so I think flounder was okay with never seeing each other again until Morgana was handled

Ariel so easily falling into the cycle of control the second she and her loved one were threatens because it was all she knew and ALSO LET'S REMEMBER. SHE WAS SIXTEEN IN THE FIRST MOVIE. So let's put her at eighteen nineteen at the latest when Melody is born. her brain literally had no time to make new patterns, the natural course of action was to follow old ones.

they both had children, it's realistic for friends to fall off when they both have new lives outside of each other. they still think of each other fondly but priorities change especially when they don't live in the same area anymore.
