@whatmojoloves: Question for group fitness instructors that work for franchises or corporately run studios with multiple locations…do you write your own routines? No judgement I’m just super curious as someone who does a lot of group fitness classes.

Barre3 has templates they give out once per quarter (new instructors in training go off of this platform). Otherwise there is a structure based on the section of the class and you can plug in different approved excersises. I think some of their new classes are more structured by corporate. Their music selection is also kind of structured.

Pure Barre instructor here! I hope i’m allowed to say this but 100% of programming and music is made by corporate. Can be a positive and a negative imo.

I go to Tremble and take about 5 different instructors a week and I can tell they write their own programs because they are all so different to an extent and if you take them enough you notices the differences in the structure, moves and flows that each instructor favors

Previously pure barre instructor for 5 years. Corporate designs sets of thighs, seat, abs ect every quarter. We get to pick what ones we use and how we put them together though.

Club Pilates- we make our own class plans. There are outlines for flows and sample flows from corp, but we’re build our own classes. New instructors sometimes have a lead review their class plans. Maybe different across franchise.

solidcore coach! been teaching for 3 years and I typically make my own sequences following our rules and structure. we do have sequences suggested for each day that have been created by other coaches, and they’re a good resource!

pure barre instructor here! corporate creates all of our choreography and sequences; we’re required to learn, memorize, and instruct the class. depending on the studio, teachers may be required do follow a choreography schedule, and that tells you which exercises to teach that day. others may give teachers the freedom to pick which exercises they teach that day, as long as it follows the rules regarding structure and logistics of the class. in other words, we’re given the pieces to the puzzle and have to put it together!

I don’t teach but go to Yoga6 quite a bit and have taken the same classes with different instructors and it definitely feels like the instructor writes their own flow as long as it fits the corporate class limits (ie 101 being more intro friendly, restore being slower and more stretches based)

Barry’s boyo here, 100% of the programming is on the instructor past I believe the first 90 days (just to kinda help the new guppies without throwing them into an ocean). So if you love class it’s me ◡̈ ! if you hate class.. it’s me :(

Pure Barre teacher here! Corporate creates the structure and you can drag & drop different exercises in (all combos are available in video form on a portal so that you can learn them). There’s still the same structure for each of the different formats of class—classic, empower, define, align—so it gives the client an idea of what comes next and they can get better at it. It’s up to the instructor which exercises that they want to include for each section of class, however

At pure barre, we have an entire team dedicated to writing the choreo for us at the corporate level. As an instructor you are required to learn your class from the 100 combinations created and make changes(from the list) when needed to keep things fresh.

BFT: they do the programming. Honestly, it’s the best programming I’ve seen in our setting. Our programmer she’s a boss she knows her stuff. We have the option after being open to teach Coach’s Choice Classes but that’s only certain days/times. As a trainer, going to places they don’t have consistency is hard because the routines vary so much from instructor to instructor.

CorePower yoga sculpt has a base sequence that you learn in teacher training and have to audition with. After that you’re free to modify but have to keep some elements i.e sun A, sun B, cardio, savasana and the cueing has to follow a formula that they train you on but not all instructors do it and there’s no one checking that it’s being done unless a teacher gets complaints

OrangeTheory is done by corporate so that no matter where you are in the world you are getting the same workout. It was structured this way so that people working out in different cities could still connect about the workout they did that day.

Solidcore coach here! We have pre-set sequences and every few months we go through a new level of training to be trained on new exercises, so after each of those we get new sequences. After 1 year we can sequence on our own.

At solidcore they give us a daily sequence that you are more than welcome to use (I do) but not required. There’s also plenty of rules you are supposed to adhere to in terms of your sequencing

I coach at solidcore. I write my own sequence for every single class, but coaches below a certain tenure are given entry level set sequences to use. There is also a sequence of the day and sequence packs for speciality format classes.

I would never work someplace that didn’t give me freedom or opportunity for creativity. That’s such a boring existence. I also have no interest going to a studio that corporate makes the workout. what’s the point of an instructor at that point?!

When i worked at CPY we had to teach the same class 30 times then test out and if we pass we could make up our own! They do give structure to help make up your own sequence once you test out
