It's my sister's first winter in Australia (my 7th) and she kept getting sick and saying how cold she was at night. I kinda brushed it off and was like "yeah that's kind of the way it is" and I taught her how to maximise heat by letting the cold out, got her an oodie, a heated blanket, and an oil heater. realised last week that there is a massive DRAFT coming in from a bad window directly above her head. I felt so bad 😅

if you have an aircon the heat mode is 3-5x as efficient as a space heater.

Also close your curtains the amount of heat that escapes through the windows is unbelievable.

FYI spotlight have electric throws that are larger than a queen bed and super fluffy. So much snugglier. They also time out so if you fall asleep it will turn itself off. $90

Also, you don’t need to heat the air when sick. Grab a humidifier and pump damp into the air. It’ll help out with the horrid dry air when sick.

we have an ausclimate inverter heater, it runs at 2400w to warm up the house and then drops to lower wattage to save on heating costs. some of these smaller heaters can use the same amount of power and still not provide enough heat.

get the heated throw from kmart, my partner did the maths and apparently for 10 hours of use it only costs like 30c. it's been a lifesaver for us this year, haven't brought a heater out once

oil heater with a timer for the win! we use that so it's not cold when we get out of bed and go to bed is a game changer

it doesn't have to be a surprise? every appliance tells you how many watts/kilowatts it is, times it by the number of hours you use it for (kWh) then times the your electricity rate.

Ours didn’t, I put it on for half hour before bed in my sons room and half hour in the morning before my son gets up. The bill wasn’t much higher at all

😵‍💫Mine runs at 0.16c per hr. Yes that can add up but people please don't base your research based off videos pole these, but rather look at the input and output and do the math yourself. It only takes a few minutes

Costly but for smaller rentals I’ve found the EcoFlow wave 2 (and the new 3) to be decent and uses about a 25-33% of the power of an electric heater (it’s a heat pump)
