@pbsnews: FEMA missed major flood risks at Camp Mystic in Texas, new analysis reveals The search for more than 100 people still missing from the catastrophic July 4 flash floods in Texas began its second week Saturday. Officials have rejected suggestions that the calamity could have been anticipated, but an analysis by NPR and PBS Frontline suggests otherwise. John Yang speaks with Laura Sullivan, an NPR investigative correspondent, to learn more. #pbsnews #newshour #pbsnewshour #news #texas #floods #fema #texasfloods #campmystic #severeweather #naturaldisaster
Gee, why oh why does the GOP want to do away with PBS & NPR?

Can you say class action lawsuits against the county and federal government. This was just not a lost of personal property but of lives, some young people who will never come back. You can rebuild a house and property but you can't bring back the dead. Yes the money won't be able to satisfy the pain of loved ones who perished in the flood but accountability still can be enforced.

So by watching this video in entirety… it says that the camp owners requested/appealed to not be listed?

In 2021 Biden gave them $10 million for their early warning siren system. Their hatred for him had them spend it in other ways.
It proved to be a costly mistake.

Politicians got the camp removed from a flood plane so the owners could get out of paying high insurance rates.

Mr Eastland who is somehow being praised as a hero is the one who requested he not have to move the 12-15 cabins
Every one of those cabins was destroyed in the flood

FEMA flood insurance policies also only cover $250k to rebuild your house. The owner of camp better have some damn good liability because they’re gonna be sued.

FEMA didn't miss anything, that is misleading. Congress made it weak so reckless people can do whatever they want

History repeats. In July 1987, flooding on the Guadalupe River in Kerr County forced hundreds of people to flee the area. It resulted in the death of 10 teenagers. 30 injurys.

Best thing to do is just buy flood insurance, regardless if the property is on the flood plane or not

Why are they shifting blame to the federal govt? it was the local and state authorities that hired their own (private) engineering company to provide data to change the FEMA map. FEMA doesn’t have the resources to fight every wealthy interest group.

This statistic may have changed yet over a 30 year mortgage there is a 5% chance your home will burn while there is a 25% chance your home will flood regardless if your home is in a flood plain.

You’re not hearing the local officials. It’s not that there were zero plans for flooding, it’s that ANY plan is rendered useless if there’s no time to take that action by the time meteorologists realize the amount of flooding. It seems no one wants to accept that context and no one wants to accept that they were prediciting 1-2 ft up until it was already past that.

I think this headline is misleading. Fema did put some of these in a floodplain and camp mystic asked to be removed. I think the big issue is people asking to be removed from floodplain and allowed to be removed. Even if they remain, this would still be an issue

Something’s not tracking with her story. She said homeowners can remove their property from the flood map at FEMA. How? With a quick email, like, “Hi FEMA, take me off.” That’s it?

So they’re seriously trying to privatize the weather now? Must they privatize every government program in order to feel they’ve sufficiently bled us all dry?
