Colville is named after Andrew Colvile...I guess his name, his pronunciation? And Pend Orielle is correct, as someone else said it's French. Ponderay is an English phonetic version but until your video I've never seen it that way and just went down a mini rabbit hole trying to figure it out. (I was born in Spokane and have lived here practically my entire life 🤷♀️)

When I was in 9th grade I was new to Spokane and read it "Pend Or-uh-lee" out loud in class and now I'm 40 and that keeps me up at night.

The Colville pronunciation is by person. My aunt lives there there & says “Cole-ville”

The Sandpoint one is weird because it is Lake Pend Oreille but the little town before Sandpoint is Ponderay. I swear that changed sometime in the early 2000’s. Could be wrong though. But in WA it’s Pend Oreille County. I use to live in Bonners Ferry and now live in Spokane. So I get it.

pend oreille is French is named after the Kalispel Indians when the French fur trappers first encountered them the had large gauged earring
