Carl got really burned by Bea. He also seemed to be kind of indifferent to being in a relationship. He was more upset about Bea wanting to give Donut back to her parents than he was that she was cheating on him. I also think he’s afraid to get too attached to anyone in the Dungeon because they could use it against him.

Yeah I don’t think Carl has truly gotten over the end of his relationship with Bea. Has he had any other human relationships that lasted that long since his parents. Also I don’t think Matt is done with Bea either.

I love how Dinniman writes Carl and his relationships to others in the book. Carl is in survival mode and worried about everyone. plus, it's all televised. Carl wouldn't want any romance aired for others views (or to be used to hurt him).

I don't think Carl pines for anything romantic. I think he started just wanting to survive, and from now on after book 7 he's going to struggle with wanting to protect his new family and his absolute need to burn everything about the Dungeon.
