I develop courses for a living. Never once is my 30 year career have I completed a course and thought “yes - nailed that.”

When we simplify, we make it wrong. Accept it and decide what takeaways you want from your course and go from there❤️

I’ve been a professor for 20 years. A new class takes three tries: First time, you start with a plan but everything goes off the rails at some point. Second time, you actually execute the plan from the first time. Third time, you can actually improve the plan! Get through it, track student performance and feedback, and iteratively improve!

I taught a new graduate class last fall, and I made the mistake of trying to teach a decade’s worth of statistics knowledge in one semester. It was far too much😂 and I’m trimming down a LOT down for this coming fall.

No, you’ll never feel like you have enough time to cover all the relevant information.

The way I look at it is that 100/200 level classes are just supposed to whet the appetite. It’ll always be an inch deep and a mile wide, but your curation will trigger students to sign up for upper level classes that go deeper. So, trust your gut and it will land for the right students.

you're doing great. it sucks. it's a thing I hated about building mock courses.

Based on the one semester of a law school course I taught, yeah it’s like that.

“There’s no way I can impart my knowledge” Imma stop you right there ✋🏻 pls limit expectations that they want or care to actually learn. There’ll be some that do, but most of them are just there for the credits. Stress less about failing your students because they will only fail you. You got this, just breathe and stick to the basics.
