Here’s how our day went — and it was a long one! 😮‍💨 Carter was up bright and early at 5am after rolling out of bed and crying. Chris crawled in with him to help him settle, while I had to head out early because my daith piercings (which I’ve had for 6 years) needed to come out for my MRI. Thankfully, we found a piercing shop open at 9am, just in time since my MRI was at 11. The piercer hadn’t seen clasps like mine before, so she had to cut one out 😩 but was able to remove the other one cleanly. I planned to swing back later to get a replacement, but that didn’t happen (you’ll see why…). I made it to my MRI appointment early and nearly fell asleep in the machine 😆 They had to put the IV in my hand after trying veins I told them not to use (I was right… as usual). When I got back, Chris was at the Ronald McDonald House turning in our dinner order. It was Bingo & McDonald’s Night—they covered dinner for all the families ❤️ And the RMH director even told me she had a birthday cake ordered for Carter that’ll be here tomorrow at noon! 🥹🎂 Carter had a banana and hardboiled eggs for breakfast, and after I freshened up (face wash, mask, exfoliator—you know the drill), Carter and I went downstairs and ate chicken Alfredo from the community fridge. We got to talk to other families and hear their stories—always comforting. We were a little late heading to the hospital because Carter needed a change, but they took us right back. We met with Dr. Harmon and a medical student studying neurogenetics. Dr. Harmon explained Carter’s MRI results to us — she told us where the fluid-filled cyst is located on his spinal cord, and unfortunately, it can’t be drained. As for the Chiari, she said that’s the neurosurgeon’s area, and she was surprised we hadn’t already been referred. I asked her to help us get one here locally, and she said she’d coordinate that and communicate with them directly. I also gave her all the doctors' names and emails so she can make sure everyone is on the same page. She’ll be reaching out to Dr. Eichler, Dr. Van Mater, and Dr. Northam to keep everything coordinated. She’s going to schedule a full spine MRI, and while Carter is sedated, she’ll also get the skin biopsy and blood test that Dr. Eichler requested. She also prescribed leucovorin to see if it might help with his speech. She was glad we pushed for the MRI and that we’d already been seen by Eichler. Carter was totally obsessed with the med student 🤣 and it was mutual. Seriously, Carter’s charm with male doctors is next level lol. She also mentioned possibly scheduling follow-up neurology coordination for me too, which means more appointments (yay... 😬) We didn’t leave the hospital until 6pm, which meant we missed Bingo Night, but I did manage to find a piercing shop nearby and got a new daith piercing for just $10! The guy was a total Disney fanatic — he goes 3 times a year. Must be nice 🥲 We grabbed drinks at 7 Brew, came back to RMH, and now we’re eating McDonald’s while talking about Carter’s birthday plans 💙 Time to unwind and watch Big Brother. Thanks to everyone following along with us — we appreciate your love and support more than you know. #UBTFStrong #CarterStrong #RareButMighty #MedicalMama #RonaldMcDonaldHouse #ChiariMalformation #SyringomyeliaAwareness
