🔊Yesterday’s caption below cuz same!🩷 Hii. I planned a big day on 7/23 for Kernie to have a cardiac echo, surgery recheck, and to see the new dermatologist, but we still ended up at the ER til midnight bc I didn’t feel safe to monitor/care for him until then on my own.😭There’s so many odd things since switching antibiotics 10 days ago - no endurance/heavy panting, stumbly gait, random leg incision swelling on day 4 of stronger antibiotic, knuckling (walking on toes) on his good legs for the first time ever, hanging his head and acting upset when walking, back (stick) leg giving out and seeming achy, putting himself to bed early, etc. No definitive answers, but it was really helpful and will hold us over. We were able to rule out antibiotic side effects (I asked 3 specialists) and summer heat. They agree it’s weird that his recovery has been up and down, except they said his e. Coli is really bad and it’s normal to see symptoms still… it’s just weird to see him seemingly decline while on the correct antibiotic, but at least the incision is now healing. He’s been cleared a full week for activity and he’s nowhere close to ready - normal Kernel is ready for bedrest to end the day after it starts. The cardiologist’s thinks: 🟢1. Same as what ER said 🟡 2. These bacterial infections caused his mild heart disease to progress and now he needs heart meds. 🔴3. Least likely but most damaging, the bacteria made it to his heart, causing endocarditis. There is only a 1% chance of this happening, except it’s not for Kernel bc risk factors include having bacterial infections (he has 3), heart issues, being old, male, and a big dog, and he has just as many symptoms. Also, this same e. Coli infection is what caused his partly necrotic liver last July and there was a 1% chance that would happen. I want answers and I want them nowwww.😫 Love, Alyssa and Kernel❤️ #dogs #greatdane #seniordog #boston
