@youthpastorryan: NASA used brooms to fight invisible fire, it’s gotten more high tech now but what a weird time! Here’s some wild science history where the crazy solution worked.

I’m a chemist and we use hydrogen furnaces at work so I literally have a broomstick in the lab for this purpose 😂

Am engineer (not NASA), this is how we would detect high pressure stream leaks. If it knocks the broom out of your hands, you found a leak.

So they not have multi million dollar Infa-red cameras

Does it not leave a heat signature?

the broom method is peak though so if it works why not go with it

I’m sorry, why is there no DYE??!! Or odor? We scent natural gas for this reason. 🤦🏼‍♀️There has to be an additive that would work for visual detection.

To be fair it's not like they could afford a better solution, and even if they DID present a high tech solution they'd be given the brooms and told to make do anyways because we need to pump more money into warfare and militarized police forces. 🙄

we did the same for high pressure, pin hole steam leaks in the engine room on nuclear submarines in the NAVY. However, we were in a pressurized asbestos lined fire suit for this. walk slowly while moving the broom up & down, when the bristles get cut, you found the leak. It's terrifying...

why not use heat detection and if there's something at the temp a hydrogen fire burns/combusts at it deploys fire suppressant in that area

so 20 dollar thermal binoculars or scope won't work.

Wouldn’t working with a thermal camera in your hand work better?

My favorite joke about NASA is the solution to pens in space. So how it goes is that since gravity doesn’t really work in space the inks of pens would not get pulled to the bottom making pens pretty much useless so what they did is spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on inventing a pen the works in space, meanwhile Russia just used a pencil.

brooks were also used to find superheated steam leaks aboard old warships. if the broom got cut in half, you found the leak. if you got cut in half, you also found the leak, but it's not your problem anymore.

Couldn't they just, add a scent and/color prior to pumping it in?

hydrogen also has a storage problem due to how small it's atoms are, so it has the bratty behavior of walking through walls

hydrogen fires aren't invisible they are close to the UV spectrum so they are hard to see. but hydrogen burns blue.
