lol I’d say that was pretty clear, “give me more apples, damn!”

My cat will use one claw on my forearm gently, and stare at me until I acknowledge her. Then she will meow and run toward watch she wants.. like her food bowl, the backdoor, or her toy bin. If this isn’t intentional communication I don’t know what is.

Animals are not being studied as much as u think, for example even the weasel family in Canada, there is a species of skunk that have the face shape like a sloth up until this day I haven’t seen that skunk species posted up anywhere on the 🦨 species list

I did a behavioral study in the early ‘90’s with sharks that had been born in captivity and their response to ‘live’ bait fish (slight electrical change to allow the sharks to detect it with their ampulla of Lorenzini. I had a nurse and a lemon that would fully react if they didn’t get their “ treat“. The nurse would spit water at me and the woman shark would go underneath the metal tray like the thing I was on out of the water and lash until I was soaked. They definitely were communicating and wanted their fish

I feel like we knew this already tho, dogs bark when they want more food. Or is it different somehow?

To even assume this is a necessary field of research. They’re animals not planks of wood

It'd also be interesting to see if non-human animals understand first order intentionally. Like, we can train dogs to come and fetch, but does an untrained dog understand that we're trying to communicate "come here" or "bring me that". Same with elephants. Or elephants communicating with dogs

My dog and cat have me well trained, believe me, I know the difference between 'I want dinner' and I want one of those creamy licky treats 😸 my dog gestures with her eyes.

we know that elephants talk to eachother, it's just so low frequency we need machines to hear it, not only that they even have individual names for one another, the o ly non human animal to do so. I bet thus elephant was trying to communicate

When you stop petting an animal and they gesture or press their face into your hand. Obviously these aren’t scientific observations, but still! My dog also used to make a really specific growl/whine when she wanted to go to outside 🤣
