This is a common misconception. The words, Circe and cirice were mistaken to be the same word and origin. Cirice is derived from the West Germanic kirika, and ultimately from the Greek word kyriake. Kyriakon (κυριακόν) is the neuter form of the Greek adjective kyriakos (κυριακός), meaning "of the Lord" or "belonging to the Lord".
