if the school called me for this....they would regret their call.

It drives me bonkers that because some of them can talk and interact somewhat normally…excluding situations like this one that they’re lying about not being able to hear. My sister is deaf, she can hear low tones like men’s voices better than women’s. We all learned to speak low and to look at her. Drives me nuts!

Omg this is so triggering for me. I am in my 40s now but have worn hearing aids since i was 20. I’ve been fired from jobs for “not following directions” or “not listening” etc. i was called a snob in HS for not responding to people’s greetings that I flat didn’t hear. It’s infuriating.

This is a lawsuit, disabled students have legal protections against this kind of discrimination

because of a birth defect my ears retain fluid constantly. I've had to have tube placed every year to year and a half my entire life. the number of times my mom got called by school administrators with similar comments was unreal. even when id been in the same school multiple years. they always regretted making that call🤣🤣🤣 mama didn't play when it came to my hearing

I got the "but you don't have a speech impediment so you can't be" comment in school. like thanks, I worked hard for that.

School must have her disability info on her record when she registered. Parents must notify her school if she require hearing aids. Serious admin error.

could be worse, when my late mother was in school she had a chalk board rubber thrown at her for not listening when she had in fact been deaf since a baby due to a server earlier infection x

I had similar experiences! I had to wear transmitters with wires that connected to hearing aids and all through my school years I'd get in trouble with teachers for "listening to music"... like I'm just tryna listen to you! Was horrible. Oh not forgetting the "listen harder" comments 🤯🙄

My principal brought in a public speaker who used to have a severe stutter and after the presentation and stuff, she heard me talking to my friends and I myself having a moderate to severe stutter was of course stuttering bad. She tried giving me detention cause she “didn’t know” I stuttered

What were they even thinking, calling her mom? Her mom literally bought those hearing aids for her.

I have single sided deafness and this happened to me as well. Yes parents have to give the school your hearing tests and mine did, but they don’t always let every teacher know.
