York was named by a Viking called joark or yoark. you can spell his name either way. The Viking ruled Northern England an Scotland for about 200 years. So it's not so strange there is a Scandinavian influence on Northern England and Scotland

this is really funny but unironically northern English has the most Scandinavian influence on their language, and many believe that ey up does come from a Scandinavian language (not this exact Swedish phrase tho)

I actually learned abt this recently that more than 1000 words (or 10 000 i dont really remember) are basically made out of Swedish words from the Vikings invarion in UK, and that almost all words in English that stars with ”Sk” are from the swedish language at some point
