Rosie O'Donnell has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump for nearly two decades. Their public feud began in 2006 during O'Donnell's time as a co-host on "The View" when she criticized Trump's handling of the Miss USA pageant and called him a "snake-oil salesman". She also questioned his moral authority, referencing his past marriages and affairs. O'Donnell said she didn't "enjoy him" and said he went bankrupt, a claim Trump denies.
More recently, following Trump's second term as president and her relocation to Ireland in early 2025, O'Donnell has continued to voice strong opposition. In July 2025, after Trump suggested he was considering revoking her citizenship, O'Donnell responded sharply on social media, calling him "a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself". She also referred to him as "king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan", referencing a disliked character from "Game of Thrones". O'Donnell stated that she is "everything Trump fears: a loud woman, a queer woman, a mother who tells the truth, an American who got out of the country before you set it ablaze". She also connected Trump to the controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, posting a photo of the two together and implying Trump is "on the list" in reference to the Epstein files, which the Department of Justice says do not exist. O'Donnell further said that she believes Trump is "a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy compassion and basic humanity".
In June 2025, O'Donnell blamed Trump's decisions for the deadly Texas floods, saying "when the president guts all of the early warning systems and the weather forecasting abilities of the government, these are the results". In March 2025, she also questioned the integrity of the 2024 election results, suggesting that one of Trump's "best friends owns and runs the internet", possibly referring to Elon Musk.
