That’s not how these matters are handled in a constitutional democracy. We cannot act based on emotions or personal feelings especially when it comes to serious decisions like removing someone from public office. There is a proper legal process that must be followed. It’s important to first understand what a Judicial Commission of Inquiry is. It’s a legal process established to investigate facts, not to make instant judgments. Everyone has the right to reply and must be presumed innocent until proven guilty. The commission may also uncover deeper levels of corruption, potentially exposing police officers, politicians, judges, and businesspeople who are involved but have not yet come under public scrutiny and that’s exactly what the country needs. We should actually commend the President for acting responsibly placing Minister Mchunu on leave while appointing someone experienced and not currently active in politics to step in. It’s also reassuring that he retained Mkhwanazi, showing that experience and continuity matter. Let us take a step back, set aside emotions, and allow the law to take its course. Let’s not forget former President Zuma was the one who previously dismissed Mkhwanazi, yet President Ramaphosa saw the value in keeping him. This is how a functioning democracy works with respect for due process and the rule of law.
