@allison.l.barr: Anytime there are groups together working toward a common goal, there are unspoken (and sometimes spoken) norms and behaviors that are expected. In this case, a more formal workplace might have the belief that “thanks” is too casual for their clients and customers. Either way, observing the common behaviors at your work is a good way to understand the culture. And, of course, you have a choice to go along with them or not. Just remember that your choice may come w a consequence (for better or worse). #success #successful #successmindset #work #job #jobs #onthisday
I settled on Thanks because everything else makes me cringe?? It seems most common where I work.

At my 10k+ employee company we see “Thanks,” “Many thanks,” “Best,” “Thanks!” and my favorite “Get Outlook for iOS.”

I simply say "you're welcome" instead of thanks....makes them think

If they’re not gonna like me cause I say thanks in an email, then it’s never gonna work out long term.

If a company is focusing on how I write my emails, which is professional and cordial by default, I don’t want to work there. They’re focusing on micromanagement rather than prioritizing efforts that could have a greater impact.

I don’t have time to think of a unique sign off for every email. Do you know how many emails we get a day? I use thanks for everything.

Within the company I tend to write “Thank you”. For outside the company I tend to write “Thank you! Sincerely”. Never knew there were norms.

Thanks comes across the same way as “Bless your heart”. If I like you or don’t know you – Cheers. To people at work whom I despise – regards. No warm or kind.

Saying “thanks” when asking someone to do something always felt a bit assumptive. I’ve also grown tired of the “let me know if you have any questions.” I’m seeing a trend to not closing email at all, treating the mode like an instant message. Why does IM get a pass?

My company is so busted there are directors that have a signature that says thanks and they still type thanks so we get thanks thanks. I’m done

If you were asking someone to do something for you then thanks is appropriate. Otherwise leave it off.
