If I was hiring I’m pretty sure I would rather have someone from MIT than someone from a random Community College (if they both have similar stats, and GPAs)

GPA matters for two things: 1. Many internships (especially ones attended through your school) have a minimum gpa requirement. 2. GPA is important for graduate school admissions. Even if you don’t want to go to grad school right away, you’ll want a competitive gpa when/if you do decide to get a masters or higher

simple. join the navy through nrotc and then you’ll be given a guaranteed job and then you’ll look amazing coming out of your service

the student orgs saved my butt. my gpa sucked, but having that project experience from student competitions. Civil had a steel beam, mechanicals a Baja buggy, and electricals a robot. Being a part of that afforded me ao much experience for my resume and respect from my faculty to be willing to tutor me more and write letters of recommendation. we built each of the competitions as a project so we could reference as one. that project experience was so crucial for interviews etc. also ask questions in an interview. my first internship i asked what their team attitude was like. said I like to joke and have fun. I will get the work done, but if its all head down be quiet and work that I wouldn't be the best fit. they said that sealed the deal. that internship was a blast. loved it and learned so much.
