It’s been a long journey ya’ll—needless to say it’s one thousand percent worth it! This one goes out to all my aspiring clinical social workers.⠀ ⠀ Step #1: Earn a Bachelor’s Degree. You can earn a BSW (Bachelor’s in Social Work), but not limited to. Students in MSW programs come from a wide variety of academic fields. You can earn a Bachelor’s in Sociology, Psychology, Visual Arts, Anthropology, and the list goes on and on. I earned my Bachelor’s in Sociology-Social Service Track from California State University San Bernardino. It is recommend but not required to have 1 year minimum experience in social services. Some schools may require 1 year experience in the public social service field. Also, this allows you to gain better insight if this is a field you want to continue pursuing or not. 🤷🏽‍♀️⠀ ⠀ Step #2: Earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from a CSWE- accredited School of Social Work. I earned my MSW from California State University Fullerton *GO ‘YOTES* 🤘🏽⠀ ⠀ Step #3: Register as an ASW in order to accrue supervised experience. During this process, make sure you build a support system with those within your field of work. No one will understand “the struggle” unless those folx going through “the struggle” with you LOL. AND it is MAJOR to practice LOTS of ✨SELF-CARE.✨⠀ ⠀ Step #4: Take and Pass the California Law and Ethics Exam. I personally used Therapist Development Center (TDC) for study material, did the program 2x and passed on the first try. Gerry Grossman is another useful tool.⠀ ⠀ Step #5: Earn 3,000 total supervised hours, over 104 weeks + Take and Pass the ASWB Clinical Exam. I also used TDC for the Licensure exam, did the program 2x and passed on the first try.⠀⠀ ⠀ ✨Save this post for your records✨⠀ #msw #lcsw #therapistsontiktok
