If Christians really believe Heaven is better and this world is evil, how about they just go to Heaven now and get out of the rest of our collective way so we can address these very real issues 🤷🏽♂️Like fr, why do they even stay?

also, was very curious on the whole thing of “he died for your sins” … doesn’t that help not take accountability? If you know you’re going straight to heaven for being Christian and that your sins have been wiped because of someone’s death???

there are therapists who will decline religious patients because they are less likely to actually listen to their advice since they’re reliant on the idea of a better afterlife and usually just say “this is god’s will for me”

I saw a post on Facebook showing a smiling Jesus welcoming children into heaven, the kids who just died in the Texas Flood. All the comments were praising it. Both the image and the thought. They’re practically celebrating the death of kids. 🤦♂️

It’s like the forget that Jesus said they will be known by the fruit of their labors. Letting the world get destroyed because they’re on the right team seems like an action that Jesus would condemn.

Would love to see the data on this, sociological data doesn’t agree with what you are saying. Christians with intrinsic religiosity are more likely to donate to charity and volunteer their time that secular humanists. Secular humanists aren’t even reproducing enough to sustain a population. Also the majority of Christians in the world are not “white evangelicals”. The largest sect of Christianity is Catholic, Protestants being second with many not considering themselves “evangelical”. Please provide your sources for this data (or point me to where I can find them), would love to read it.

The only evidence that Jesus prophesized is from the Bible, but the earliest part of the Bible is the letters of Paul that were written about 20 years after Jesus' death. On average, most of the Bible was written over 50 years after his death. So it is hard to say if they are really the prophecies of the author or the prophecies of Jesus. Plus, none of these prophecies came with firm dates or markers for when they might take place. This seems like a pretty flimsy roadmap to hang your hat on. To me spirituality isn't served well by this kind of scavenger hunt. For example, I like the golden rule, which is much simpler than most of what is in the Bible, and it would be much more efficient to just follow that rule.

And the evangelicals say Catholics are weird. As a lapsed catholiic, it makes me happy Catholic school taught me two things, critical thinking and cursive. I mean at least Catholicism has orders of all disciplines of scientists and stopped excommunicating them centuries ago.

this is so true. my coworker is a devout jw and she literally doesn’t care about the earth or wars or voting or anything because “the earth will be perfected and it will all be better in the next life.” It’s astonishing to me that she wouldn’t want to make the world better while we are here and for our children

You described my parents. I was thinking about this recently- they live in such a way that destroying the earth, the economy seems like the “right” thing to do to bring on the rapture. Meanwhile they have made the future a very bleak place for their children and grandchildren. How can they believe this is okay?

i had a best friend who is very religious and everything she did was to “get into heaven” and had nothing to do with wanting to be a good and kind person. it blew my mind. and she would justify hateful behavior because “the bible says”. i just dont get it.

As a Christian I’m so confused because if we are not good stewards of the land we aren’t going to heaven. Our job is to be caretakers of this world. I’m so confused.
