Don't they change the bridge on the violin, versus playing fiddle. violin is round, fiddle is flat. gives it a different sound.

a fiddle has a shorter/flatter bridge than the violin, bringing the strings closer to the fingerboard, making is easier to play faster and do double stops.....this was one of the first things we learned...
