Hey I think you're doing fine, could find friends who can take time everyday to communicate in Chinese with you. I believe your relatives in Malaysia are treating you as one of them. Just keep speaking to them in Chinese and slowly you will learn bits by bits. Don't worry about your accent as you'll do just fine. Keep going and have faith!! 💪🏻

this feeling is so real!!! i feel the same way every time i go back to taiwan and it really is just kind of an old fashioned/prev generation mindset, i know its hard esp when its coming from family but i rlly mean it when i say you cant take it to heart!! younger ppl are much less judgmental and i know you will learn so much just by being there 💖 just keep practicing and the effort will show and attract the right people — hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in malaysia 💓💓

Erm, in Malaysia we don't care if you don't know the language, and some Chinese in Malaysia we called banana which they don't know Chinese. So that not a big deal. We don't care about language barrier, we just care are you open and fun person 😂

hey dude, dont stress it man. im also of malaysian decent but first generation american. ive been in your shoes and i tried many years. it was devastating for me too. i just went back to malaysia earlier this year to see family but it was pretty embarrassing to even try. but if youre trying your best im sure they can see that too. try anyways. dont worry about what your mom says. everyone says “youre your worst critic” but its actually your mom 😂

I feel for you. I was lucky that most of my friends in school were older one dat they told me they weren’t speaking English with me anymore and I had to learn Korean. So thats how I learned. Don’t give up! You can learn

It’s okay . You did enough . You are enough . You don’t need to force yourself to be something you’re not . Language is just one of those things you acquire when you’re really young at critical developmental stages . Your ear will simply not catch certain sounds anymore .
