Galveston, Texas (March 13, 2024) – At approximately 4:10 p.m. March 13, Galveston police responded to reports of a man on the roof of a building with what appeared to be a firearm, in the 2200 block of The Strand. Multiple police units quickly responded to the location and cleared the block to ensure the safety of visitors in the area. Galveston police have one person in custody that has been transported to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for medical evaluation. While it has been reported that shots were fired, police have found no evidence of shots fired, and no firearm has been recovered. There is also no evidence that this was associated with any robbery attempt. (What actually happened): A two-block stretch of The Strand was blocked off after a man caused a disturbance when he reportedly punched out the windows of a building. It was about 4:10 PM when visitors in the historic downtown district reported seeing a man on the roof of a building with some sort of gun. What appears to have happened was a man started punching out windows of Old Galveston Square at the corner of 23rd Street and The Strand. Windows on third floor of 2217 Strand had been broken, although it was not clear how that happened. Although, the suspect has been arrested and has been transported to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for medical evaluation. There is no evidence that this was associated with any robbery attempt or shots fired. Many people claimed that this was an active shooter situation, however, that wasn't the case. It was a scare that led multiple officers respond to the location. #galveston #lawenforcement #agencies #texansservingtexas #gcounty #responsetime #robbery #falseactiveshooter #agency #galvestonpolicedepartment #texasdps #galvestoncountytexas #galvestonstrand #evidence #investagation #galvestoncounty #galvestonisland #galvestontexas #galvestontx #medical #suspect
