There’s a BIG difference between stating your opinion and just being outright mean. Social media used to be a space where we could go to find comfort, decompress, and share our lives, but now it feels like all I see is hate, insecurities, and people tearing each other down. It’s disgusting, and it needs to stop. We’ve gotten so used to this toxic behavior online that it’s been normalized, and that’s not okay. Just because we have the freedom to say what’s on our mind doesn’t mean it should be used to hurt others. People seem to think it’s acceptable to comment with cruel intentions because it’s “just an opinion,” but there’s a difference between expressing a thought and spreading hate. It’s honestly so frustrating and heartbreaking how we’ve let hurtful comments become the norm. People think that just because someone is online, it’s okay to put them down, make fun of them, or tear them apart. But behind every screen is a real person with real feelings, and no one deserves to be treated that way. We need to start holding people accountable for their actions online. Social media shouldn’t be a space where people feel attacked, it should be a space where we uplift each other. Enough is enough. We need to start being better, setting a positive example, and creating spaces where we all feel safe to be ourselves.
