my dude, chatgpt is not good at writing, but it is good at pattern matching, which is exactly what this involves. You can be a really good writer, and chatgpt will still be able to follow your writing style. Thats just inherent to how LLMs work.

fundemental misunderstanding of how LLMs work. One can tune or few-shot prompt a model to mimic the style of any writer. what someone is getting "out of the box" with chatgpt is simply a generalized style. dont want people to have the wrong expectation of LLM capabilities.

My worry is that one day this will change because you’re right that as a college student my writing is much better than GPT, but its writing voice is still very much like mine if just significantly worse. One day it will be able to discuss concepts at a collegiate level and I will have no way to dispute whether I used it to write my work

I got a decent paper out of it by giving it an incredibly detailed outline and inputting copy pastes of all the sources I researched as .txt files for it to cite directly so it wouldn’t make shit up but like at that point I had done 80% of the work so yeah. If you want it to be anything acceptable you’re gonna have to take it almost all the way to the finish line, and if you’re willing to do that then just write the fucking paper

I've only ever used chat gpt to change my stream of consciousness notes into bullet points for a "business" slide. it's better than me at sounding corporately wanky, but that's about it.

chat gpt is more articulate than i am, and although i aspire to have the same level of vocab and sentence complexity that chat gpt stole, i still have never used it; not even for a gyattdamn consent letter for school. my spite for the helplessness that gen ai is fostering is stronger than my want to present myself as more articulate
