@aero.total: I keep getting DM's asking if the fuel cutoff switch can be easily bumped from run to cutoff. My answer is no, the knobs are spring loaded where you have to use atleast two fingers to pull up and lift over a detent and place into run or cutoff. . . . #boeing #boeinglovers #takeoff #aviationdaily #logistics #aviationphotography #fuelcutoff #airbusboeingaviation #planespotting #airbus #fuelcutoffswitch #planeporn #aviationgeek #fuelcutoffswitch #avgeek #flylax #generalelectric #aviationlovers #instaplane #GENX #planespotter #megaplane #airindia Credit:@spoooling

They are trying to blame human error so that dreamliners, operating around the world, don't have to be grounded. Thus avoiding operations chaos and financial losses. Dead pilots can't defend themselves. There have been many instances in the past where they were trying to blame the pilots. However the pilots survived the crashed and defended their case successfully. Sully is a good example.

It does not matter how damn easy it is to move them, it should NOT be possible to switch off BOTH fuels while the plane is in flight. Once one is switched off the other should lock. So it is a design flaw no matter how the aircraft company tries to spin it.

Y si se bajó mal el seguro y quedó a la mitad? El mismo seguro pudo hacer que se cambiará de posición al experimentar la vibración del despegue.

Yes but what’s happening inside is an electrical signal that can fail.

Could easily be moved absent mindedly. Thinking of something else: doesn’t matter that there is a forcible action required. Such as raising the landing gear.

Still such an important switch shouldnt be that way. there should be two switches for each engine, one near each pilot.

apparently there was a report in 2018 that highlighted that the locking mechanism could fail and cause the switch to be moved to without having to pull the switch

Way too easy to move. A tired pilot could easily do it by mistake

People tend to forget this is air India we’re talking about here. There’s a good chance those safety latches got worn out over time and maintenance never bother to replace those switches

moving forward, i will always make my way to the cockpit before the plane takes off, just to make sure that those switches are correctly switch to run before the pilots can do their thing 🙄

The FAA and Boeing are gonna issue an AD to stop unnecessary switch cycling for the purpose of videos.

Yes, the switches have a locking mechanism designed to prevent accidental movement. But the official preliminary report states that the FDR recorded both switches being moved to CUTOFF at 08:08:43 and 08:08:44 UTC respectively. The same report also mentions a 2018 FAA bulletin (SAIB NM-18-33) warning of a possible defect in this locking mechanism that could allow unintended disengagement. The aircraft involved was not inspected following that advisory. So while the design includes a safety lock, even regulators acknowledged the risk of failure years ago

No existe la posibilidad de que la falla se generase en la parte eléctrica de estos accionadores (un corto disparase los relex)??? Los switch quedarían accionados pero el sistema estaría apagado. 😳

the switches should not be place side by side, should be on either side of the pilots, so one pilot cannot reach both and turn off both.. simple fix
