I still tell people I have Asperger’s. There is such a stigma about autistics being intellectually disabled and that have (insert bad word for intellectually disabled) strength. I am treated with more respect and dignity when I say Asperger’s.

I was diagnosed with PDD as an infant. I do not have autism. I didn’t have the typical autism deficits so I got the PDD that morphed into Asperger Syndrome. Autism is an umbrella diagnosis now and defeats the purpose of identifying functionality of others under the umbrella. Nobody knows what PDD is. 😩

People who aren’t even autistic attack me all the time for the terminology I use to describe my and my sons autism. I get what your husband is going through. People need to worry about themselves and stop policing others. Someone just tried “correcting” me and telling me “what it’s called” as if I’m not 45 yrs old and have my own mind.
