Your IT band is a thick band of connective tissue that runs from your hip to the outside of your knee. It doesn’t stretch like a muscle. So when it feels tight, it’s usually inflamed or compressed, especially near the knee. Common causes include: ✅ Weak glutes and hips (especially glute med and TFL) ✅ Sudden mileage increases or race training ✅ Running on the same side of the road ✅ Downhill runs or lots of stairs ✅ Tight quads, hamstrings, or hip flexors pulling things out of alignment A few minutes of this can go a long way if you’re training hard or ramping up.
