it really wasn't handled well in the new movie. the issue was brought up and then forgotten. they end up murdering a head of state with apparently no fallout.

In the movie, the US is allies with Baravia and not Jahanpur. Other countries wouldn't think that because he intervened to stop Baravia which ostersized him from the US government

And in the same way James Gunn addressed the problem that you're pointing out in The Suicide Squad. The US attacks other nations all the time constantly. So the idea that a run of the mill US attack including bombings its own citizens would result in something different than what we have today is just coming from a misinformed position.
