What book dish should I cook next? 📚🍽 My final Stormlight recipe for the near future! Vorin Women’s and Men's Curry from Oathbringer by @Brandon Sanderson at @Dragonsteel. These curries are based off of Chapter 13 of Oathbringer where Adolin and Shallan eat curry together, because Sanderson gave us some helpful descriptions. Adolin’s curry was spicy, creamy and contained pork. Shallan’s was thin, watery, sweet and contained vegetables. I took a couple creative liberties, but tried my best to do a realistic rendition of these two curries, served with garlic butter flatbread and the “soft yellow” wine also mentioned in the same chapter :) Both these curries use the base recipe from the amazing “Cosmere Cuisine” article by reactormag.com! (With my own adjustments to fit the specific book’s curry). Women’s Sweet Curry Recipe - Carrot, Fig, and Plum: 🥕 Heat oil in a heavy based skillet or pot over medium high heat. Caramelise half a diced onion. Add 5tbsp green curry paste. Add 1tbsp sugar, 2 cloves crushed garlic, some ginger, salt, and 2stp garam masala. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add 250ml chicken broth and 400g coconut milk, mix to dissolve paste. Add 1 tsp fish sauce, 1 tsp sugar. Add 6 kaffir lime leaves. Mix then bring to a simmer. Add a handful of chopped veggies (I added some broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), stir then lower heat to medium so it’s bubbling gently. Cook for 7 minutes. Add ¼ cup dried and diced figs and ¼ cup dried and diced plums (prunes). Cook for 5 minutes until the fruits are soft. Taste sauce. Add sugar for sweetness (if not enough). Optional: Add some lime juice. Men’s Spicy Curry Recipe - Chilli and Pork: 🌶 Heat oil in a large heavy based skillet over medium high heat. Caramelise half a diced onion. Add 5tbsp red curry paste, 2 large garlic cloves, 2 tsp fresh ginger and cook for about 2 minutes. Add 250ml chicken broth and stir to dissolve paste. Simmer rapidly for 3 minutes or until liquid reduces by half. Add 400ml coconut cream, 6 lime leaves, 2 tsp fish sauce and 5-8 slices of fresh chilli. Stir, then add 350g pork. Spread chicken out, bring to a simmer, then turn heat down to medium. Add ¼ cup lentils. Simmer for about 8- 10 minutes or until sauce reduces, the pork is cooked and the sauce is almost at the thickness you want. Do a taste test. Add more fish sauce to add more saltiness, or some sugar for sweetness. Add your chosen veggies, (I did a handful of cauliflower and carrot) stir. Cook for 3 minutes or until veggies are just cooked through and sauce is thickened Remove from heat. Stir through a handful of Thai basil leaves. Garnish with sliced red chilli.
