A sloped driveway gives false readings. • Pop the Hood Correctly: Most cars have a lever inside, and a latch under the hood. You need to do both. • Find the Dipstick: Look for a yellow handle or the oil icon. Some European cars don’t have one — check your dash or Google your model. • Wipe First, Then Measure: Pull out the dipstick and wipe it before checking. Reinsert, wait a second, then pull and check without turning it upside down. • Understand the Markings: Some dipsticks use textured areas, some use holes or lines — you’re aiming for somewhere in between the marks. • If You’re Low: Use a funnel to add oil through the oil cap, not the dipstick hole.
